SURF Trend Report: Open Educational Resources 2013

It was no surprise to those of us at MIT OpenCourseWare when TU Delft joined MITx. The Dutch have been deeply involved in open educational resources (OER), with TU Delft being a longstanding OCW producer and Secretary General of TU Delft Anka Mulder wrapping up a two year term as president of the OpenCourseWare Consortium.

But Dutch involvement in OER goes well beyond TU Delft. The Open University Netherlands has also been producing OCW for many years, and groups such as the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) and SURF, a collaborative organization for ICT in Dutch higher education and research, have been providing significant thought leadership.

SURF has recently released this comprehensive report (PDF – 20 MB) on trends in OER from the Dutch perspective, which is well worth the read. OER has a far wider global reach than many realize, and encompasses far more than MOOCs. This is a great way to get a better sense of the broad landscape of open educational today.
